APERITIF AT THE BAR DELLA PIAZZA

Among the first things to do in Porto Rotondo: drink an aperitif at the Bar della Piazza, for all “the square”. It would have been an open-air work of art, which had to develop around a square. And the square had to be round like the port, oriented to the north, paved with local granite, sloping down and with a sculpture, at the bottom but not in the center, in the shape of a small basin with a stopper.

THE GELATO AT THE GELATERIA DEL MOLO

Ice cream could not be missing among the things to do in Porto Rotondo. The platform on the water for dining or lunch is wonderful. A great classic is then taking a tour of the port, with ice cream.

THE CHURCH OF SAN LORENZO

among the things to do in Porto Rotondo is a visit to a church. And if it’s as special as this one, you can’t miss it. A church that was imagined and then built among the houses, as happens in Venice. This is how the sculptor Andrea Cascella imagined it. The nave is shaped like an inverted goiter, what an incredible thing! If you raise your head you will see the wooden sculptures carved by the sculptor Mario Ceroli. They depict the first inhabitants of the village, characters dear to Porto Rotondo who contributed to its birth. The bell tower, the round cross carved for the churchyard, the facade designed as a sculpture, the granite altar, the stained glass window with the deposition of Christ, the Murano rose window, the marble profiles of six Popes, that of Maria Teresa of Calcutta, everything makes this little church unforgettable.

THE WEDNESDAY MORNING MARKET

This is a small, elegant, true market. In the sense that there are beautiful and unique things. It has always been on a Saturday and has changed several locations. It is now Wednesday and it is located in the new pedestrian roundabout, the Cascella square, which has just been inaugurated and which has completed the Path of Art. Look on the ground in nearby Via Belli and you will discover the gigantic sperm whale, behind him a school of fish and squid. Then continue along Via del Molo and you will encounter, always with your eyes turned to the ground, the food chain: a wave in which the fish devour other fish. In the evening the eyes of the fish, in Murano glass, light up!

SUNSET AT THE T-BEACH

The sun in front goes to sleep and colors the sky with all shades of red and orange. Then if you see the sunset while drinking a Moijto with your feet in the sand, it’s better. And if there is also music, sometimes live, even better. What you need on certain evenings is to sit and look at the sea, with nothing else in mind.
